News from our hive: harvest time has arrived! The eco-beekeeper starts by harvesting the surplus stored in the supers, taking care to leave reserves for the bees. For information, the “super” is a storey added on top of the hive body, acting as a honey store. After harvesting the supers comes the painstaking stage of extracting the honey: the combs built and used year after year by the bees must not be destroyed. The honey flows, passes through a filter and is poured into a bucket called a “maturator” for about 3 weeks, while the impurities rise to the surface. Then comes the potting!
