Spread across Savoie, Tarn, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, some of them have remarkable features: one was built before 1860 by the Italian State and was used to bore the Fréjus tunnel through the Alps; another, drawing on a spring with a constant flow, was the third in France to electrify a town, in 1885.
